Trial license as the Evaluation Option

The Trial license lets you explore OpenText™ Analytics Database features for managing large-scale data workloads.

The 30‑day Trial license is the current evaluation option for OpenText™ Analytics Database (Vertica). It provides a supported way to explore the database capabilities in a time‑limited environment before moving to a commercial license. Trial licenses are designed for:

  • New installations.
  • Evaluation in non‑production environments.
  • A transition to a commercial license at the end of the trial period.

Trial entitlements

The trial includes:

  • Data limit: Up to 1TB of raw data
  • Cluster size: Up to 3 nodes
  • Duration: 30 days from the time the license is installed

These limits are enforced for the duration of the trial. To continue using the database beyond the trial period or to remove these limits, a commercial license is required.

About Community Edition (CE)

Community Edition (CE) was provided in earlier releases as an evaluation option. CE is no longer offered, and new evaluations now use the 30‑day Trial license. Databases originally created with Community Edition continue to require a commercial license to move forward. Trial licenses are supported for new installations only.

Using Trial licenses with existing CE environments

Trial licenses are intended for new evaluations. If your database was originally created using Community Edition, the following applies:

  • A Trial license cannot be applied to an existing CE‑licensed database.
  • Upgrading the database does not change the original license type.
  • CE licensing information remains associated with the database across upgrades.

In these cases, the supported path forward is to transition directly to a commercial license.

Supported licensing paths

  • New installation: Install a 30‑day Trial license.
  • Database originally created with Community Edition: Transition directly to a commercial license.
  • Active or expired Trial: Install a commercial license to continue usage.

Moving forward from Community Edition

If you are currently using a database that was created under Community Edition, you can continue to use the database by applying a commercial license. For assistance with licensing options or next steps, contact analyticstrials@opentext.com.

Start your trial

  1. Go to OpenText Analytics Database (Vertica).
  2. Click Start your free trial and create an OpenText account or sign in with an existing account.
  3. Check your email for a verification message and follow the instructions to activate your trial.

After the trial period

When the Trial period ends, database operations are blocked until a commercial license is installed. To continue using the database, apply a commercial license before or after the trial expires.

Recommended Next Steps

  • Evaluate your environment

Review data volume, node count, and workload requirements based on your trial usage.

  • Install a commercial license

Apply a commercial license to continue using your existing database without interruption.

  • Contact OpenText for licensing assistance

Upgrading from Community Edition license

When you upgrade to version 26.1 or later, any database using the Community Edition (CE) license becomes locked. To continue using OpenText™ Analytics Database, you can purchase a new license or contact analyticstrials@opentext.com to discuss available licensing options. For more information about types of licenses, see Understanding licenses.
